Longer Range, Lower Cost Wireless Technology

2:21 pm on July 6, 2005 | Category: WiMAX, Wireless Technology

xG Technology, a Florida-based communications company claims that its new technology will allow for more efficient, longer range wireless broadband service. By piggybacking on lower frequencies, usually used by radio signals, this technology, known as xMax, could reportedly cover a 40 square mile area of Miami and For Lauderdale with just one base station.

Due this incredible range, xMax may prove to be far more cost-effective than its competitors such as WiMax, which is backed by Intel and several other companies. If implemented successuflly, xMax could be used to bring broadband to more remote areas, rather than just the densely populated urban regions served by WiMax.

There is little doubt that a cost-effetive, longer-range wireless solution such as xMax has a lot of potential for future growth, and may even have a chance to compete with WiMax in the coming years.

[...] Another form of technolgoy being worked on by a select group of speculators, involves the transmission of information using television and radio frequencies, and may be able to provide even faster connection speeds than WiMax, over a much larger region. This tehcnology, which involves such innovations as xMax, could operate at speeds as high as high as 10 Mbps, and is expected to be made more and more widely available over the coming years. [...]
