Ingate Systems and 3Com Corporation announced this week that they are planning a partnership to offer enterprise class VoIP telephony solutions to workers on the go. 3Com unveiled its new IP Telecommuting Module, which is designed to allow remote employees to securely access corporate VoIP applications, including IP messaging and conferencing.

The vice president and general manager of 3Com, Denis Aull was quoted as saying that the 3Com IP Telecommuting module provides a critical capability for businesses with remote workers, satellite offices, even customers and partners who need reliable access to convergence communication applications.

The open standards IP Telecommuting Module uses Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which allows for increased user mobility. Employees can now utilize existing corporate VoIP systems to place telephone calls via any computer that has internet access, including those at airports and home offices.

This enhanced IP telephony solution allows users to re-route incoming calls to wireless devices, or even hotel phones when they are working outside of the office.

3Com will make use of Ingate Systems Firewall and SIParator technologies to combat Network Address Translations (NAT), and allow for increased SIP security.
