Cingular Expected to Sell Motorola’s iTunes Phone

Cingular Wireless, the number one wireless service in the US, is expected to reveal plans next week to sell Motorola’s new cell phone, which uses Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes software to play music.

There is some indication that Cingular could officially introduce the phone as early as September 7, when an Apple event is planned in San Francisco. Ovum analyst, Roger Entner said he has been told by industry sources that there will be a joint announcement at the event, by Cingular, Motorola, and Apple.

It is quite probable that over the next year or so, music downloads will become one of the hottest services for wireless providers. This is due to the fact that customers are likely to increase spending as they use their phones more and more for activities other than talking.
