Vonage and TowerStream Team Up
3:13 pm on August 2, 2005 | Category: Business, VoIP, Wireless TechnologyMiddletown, Rhode Island-based WiMax provider, TowerStream has agreed to team up with VoIP giant Vonage in one of the first co-marketing contracts of its kind.
Beginning today (August 2), TowerStream will sell internet telephony plans from Vonage along with its regular lineup of wireless broadband services. It will be one of the first partnerships between a WiMax provider, and an internet telephony company.
This deal could be a major blow to non-wireless broadband providers such as cable and telephone companies, which currently provide the vast majority of commercially offered high speed internet connections.
The combination WiMax/VoIP services now sold by TowerStream will cost about $600/month, and be targeted exclusively at large corporations such as financial institutions. Availability is currently limited to businesses in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, but will be extended to other cities in the not-too-distant future.
