Analysts Warn Against Possible Skype Security Risks
3:28 pm on September 19, 2005 | Category: VoIP, Web ServicesSkype Technologies, the free internet VoIP provider being acquired by eBay Inc., is unlikely to be able to offer an enterprise-class system anytime soon, said a research firm on Friday.
Gartner Inc. says that security is still the biggest problem with Skype’s internet telephony service. Although this problem may eventually be solved, Gartner analysts claim that Skype still has a long way to go, and that business-level customers should avoid using the company’s technology, and instead opt for a more professional paid VoIP service.
The simple fact is that although Skype has a lot of potential in terms of consumer services, eBay will have a lot of work on their hands if they want to turn it into a viable option for business communications.
