Garmin Releasing GPS Applications for Mobile Phones
2:49 am on September 9, 2005 | Category: Wireless TechnologyGarmin has just announced that they are releasing “Garmin Mobile”, a new suite of GPS applications for cellular phones.
The interface of the new software is based on that of StreetPilot, with detailed directions, turn-by-turn navigation, and moving maps. The data, which is provided by NAVTEQ, includes precise locations of restaurants, tourist attractions, and other points of interest.
For the time being, Garmin Mobile is only available on three specially selected Sprint Nextel handsets (Sanyo MM-8300, Sanyo MM-7400, and Sanyo MM-5600), but if it is successful, other carriers will likely pick it up as well.
Garmin Mobile subscriptions are currently being offered to Sprint PCS Vision customers at a rate of $9.99 per month.

Garmin Releasing GPS Applications for Mobile Phones
If you can use this with MapQuest (or similar), you could navigate nearly anywhere….

The Garmin Nuvi 360 is awesome. What about a GPS enabled cell phone for the blind or low vision user? A voic command interface would be very beneficial to sight impaired users. WE could find our way to any destination in both familiar and unfamiliar territory. A find my way feature would be awesome. Check out the Nuance Web Site to explore their interface for blind and low vision users. Perhaps Garmin could provide an affordable product for blind users.
Thanks for considering this option. If you know of any products that could be of benefit to the blind customer please email me that information.
Thank you,
Mary
