Intel to Help Bring WiMAX to Southeast Asia

Intel Corp is taking steps to speed up the launch of WiMAX technology in Southeast Asia. The company has just announced that it will be providing wireless broadband consulting, expertise, and technical services to governments, regulators, and carriers in Thailand and Malaysia. This will likely allow for limited use of WiMAX technology, in certain parts of these countries, by the end of the year.

Intel will also help to monitor and evaluate connectivity and performance of wireless broadband networks, and be instrumental to the eventual full deployment of wireless broadband technology in Southeast Asian countries. It is hoped that, in the long term, having this technology available will help these countries reduce poverty, and provide better public services to citizens.
