iTunes Phone to Enter Crowded Market

There is no doubt that the so-called “iPhone”, which is expected to be unveiled on September 7, is in for some tough competition when it hits the market. The iPhone will need to prove that it has an edge over the already popular Sony Ericsson W800i, and Nokia’s N series of cell phones, which will store up to 1000 songs and will most likely be in stores before Christmas.

Another major competitor for the iTunes phone will likely be the iPod itself. Some analysts are predicting that by creating the iPhone, Apple will merely cannibalize their own market, and reduce sales of the cheaper iPod models.

Even with the high likelihood that Cingular will agree to sell the iTunes phone, the market will present its own challenges for the new device. The success of the new device in the days and weeks after the launch will be the true test of its ability to outsell the competition in an already very crowded market.
