Motorola CEO Downplays Negative iPod Comments
2:23 pm on September 30, 2005 | Category: Business, Mobile Devices, Cell Phones, MultimediaEd Zander, the CEO of Motorola, is doing his best to downplay the critical remarks that he made recently, regarding Apple’s iPod Nano.
“Screw the Nano,” he was quoted as saying last week. “Who listens to 1000 songs?”
The comments seemed quite strange, given Motorola’s partnership with Apple to release the ROKR iTunes phone earlier this month. Zander now claims, however, that there is not a rift between the two companies. He says that that his comments were taken out of context, and although there is some competitive tension with Apple, there is still a “great relationship” between the two companies.
Speculation has been booming in recent weeks about Apple’s supposed intention to upstage the ROKR, by introducing their iPod Nano device at the same news conference. There have also been rumors that Apple may eventually release their own model of smartphone.
If these rumors turn out to be true, it will be interesting to see whether or not Apple and Motorola can truly maintain their “great relationship” in the years to come.
