Yahoo Releases Enhanced Web-Based Email Solution

Yahoo Inc. has just released the beta version its email service. They claim that the new version of Yahoo Mail uses new methods to short-circuit the multi-second loading delays that have long been associated with web-based email applications.

The newly improved service works similarly to desktop email clients, and allows for drag and drop message organization as well as nearly instant display of messages.

“The process of going through the inbox is much, much faster,” says Ethan Diamond, the product manager for Yahoo Mail, and co-founder of Outpost, which Yahoo acquired in July 2004.

Analysts say that this is a “significant step ahead” for Yahoo, but that it is more designed to inspire brand loyalty among existing customers, than to attract new ones. It seems that Yahoo is attempting to take decisive measures to maintain their top position, especially with the rapidly increasing market share of rival service, GMail.
