EarthLink to Offer Wi-Fi Cellular Service
10:59 am on October 7, 2005 | Category: Telecom Services, Wireless TechnologyThe internet service provider, EarthLink, is making plans to enter the cell phone business, by offering voice service over its citywide wireless networks.
EarthLink Municipal Networks president, Donald Berryman says that mobile phone users will be able to switch between regular cellular networks and EarthLink’s Wi-Fi networks. This will be achieved through a partnership with a South Korean company called SK Telecom.
If these plans are successful, EarthLink could likely take a significant percentage of the cellular market in major cities.
