Motorola and Intel to Collaborate on WiMAX

Intel and Motorola announced on Thursday that they will be working together to accelerate the development and deployment of WiMAX wireless broadband technology for mobile devices.

The two companies have worked side by side on the 802.16e standard for some time now, but the new deal will allow them to share design information and testing results to ensure compatibility of their new devices.

Motorola and Intel are both already working with Sprint Nextel to conduct lab tests of WiMAX technology, therefore the new collaborative agreement makes a lot of sense. By working side by side, the two companies hope to make great strides in advancing this cutting edge technology, which has the potential to be far more efficient than any currently available Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
