On Monday, Motorola unveiled the HC700-L, the first in a series of mobile computing solutions planned by that company.

The new device works using an Intel Xscale processer, and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system. It features a color touch-sensitive screen, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capability.

“The HC700-L is designed and tested to military environmental specifications to withstand the rigors of every day use,” Motorola said in its official announcement of the device. “The HC700-L is ideal for individual field users and work teams in need of mobile data applications such as remote data base inquiries, job ticketing and field service, sales force automation, asset management and inventory management.”

Additional members of the HC700 family are planned for release in early 2006.
