As of this Wednesday, Nokia has introduced a new line of mobile smartphones, which are primarily targeted at enterprise-level IT departments, and will become available by early 2006.

The company says that its new Eseries (E60, E61, and E70) devices will offer support for mobile email services from all the major providers, as well as enterprise-class VoIP technology from Avaya and Cisco Systems. VoIP support is a very useful feature, as it allows users to easily switch between cellular and office phone systems.

Nokia senior vice president, Niklas Savander, commented that the new smartphones will cater to “the need for IT departments’ to have a secure and manageable platform, and the need for devices to support a variety of employee preferences and different working styles.”

As for the difference between the three models, the E60 will look much like a standard cell phone, while the E61 will be specially optimized for email use. The most advanced model, the E70, will look and act like a full-fledged smartphone, with a color screen, and support for email attachments. All three of the devices will work on GSM mobile networks, and run on a variant of the Symbian mobile operating system.
