Nokia Targets New Phones to Emerging Markets
3:08 am on October 27, 2005 | Category: Business, Mobile DevicesThis Wednesday saw the release of four new Nokia handsets, two of which will be targeted at emerging markets, including Latin America, and parts of Asia.
Growing demand for cellular phones throughout the developing world has helped Nokia to sell 67 million phones in the third quarter. The newly released 1255 and 2355 handsets, both of which use CDMA mobile technology, are likely an attempt to further capitalize on this growing market.
The new phones include several key features that aren’t normally available on lower-cost devices. For example, the 1255 includes a hands-free speakerphone, voice recorder, and extra long battery life, while the 2355 features a color screen, and built in FM radio.
Although pricing details have not yet been released, it is likely that Nokia will go for a market penetration approach, to regain their recently lost market share in the growing Latin American market.
