Nokia vs. RIM: May the Best Company Win
3:22 am on October 19, 2005 | Category: Business, Mobile DevicesIt appears that Nokia’s recently announced E Series of mobile phones will soon be in direct competition with RIM’s BlackBerry line of cellular PDAs.
Nokia’s new devices have been made to combine both voice and mobile email functions into a single unit, along with the popular Symbian operating system and basic calendar/scheduling functionality. All three models also offer the means for communicating via VoIP telephony.
They are primarily targeted to enterprise-level users, which seems to be an open attempt at reducing RIM’s share of the corporate market. Just how successful they’ll be is yet to be seen, but with their long-standing brand identity, Nokia has as good a chance as anyone at cracking RIM’s core user base.
