Sprint Brings Lawsuit against Vonage and Voiceglo
12:10 am on October 10, 2005 | Category: Business, VoIP, LawSprint Nextel Corp. has recently announced that they are filing a patent infringement lawsuit against VoIP telephony providers Voiceglo, and Vonage.
Sprint, America’s third-largest wireless carrier, claims that the two companies have infringed on no less than seven patents relating to VoIP packet technology, developed by Sprint. The exact patents named, however, are very vague, and it hasn’t been made clear exactly how they are being violated.
Sprint representative, Debra Peterson claims that her company has been trying to come to an agreement with Vonage and Voiceglo for over a year. She claims that Sprint Nextel must take “appropriate action to protect the use of these patents.”
Voiceglo president, Ed Cespedes, on the other hand, has insisted that he doesn’t know why his company or Vonage is being sued. “I suppose Sprint’s position is they must own VoIP and therefore anyone providing it must be violating their patent,” was all he had to say on the matter.
