Canadian Wireless Providers Plan Mobile Payment Service

3:19 pm on November 10, 2005 | Category: Telecom Services, Wireless Technology

Three of Canada’s top wireless providers have recently come to an agreement this week on a joint venture that will allow customers to make payments via their mobile phones.

Telus Mobility, Rogers Wireless, and Bell Mobility have announced that the venture will enable customers to securely make standardized wireless payments, regardless of what type of cell phone or credit card they use. The aim of this project is to launch a commercialized mobile commerce service in Canada within the next 12 months.

At first the service will only be usable by prepaid wireless customers who want to buy additional minutes directly on their phones, but it will later branch out into allowing all customers to order and pay for products directly from their cell phones.
