Cingular Offering Mobile News Ticker Service
3:24 pm on November 18, 2005 | Category: Mobile Devices
Cingular has begun selling Motorola’s new V557 flip-phone, which enables users to instantly access up-to-the-minute news feeds, via a continually updated ticker tape feature on the screen of the handset.
According to a recent news release, this new Bluetooth-enabled multimedia cell phone is the first device to support Motorola’s new Screen3 ticker technology.
“Subscribers want the latest mobile content without having to click, scroll and hunt through menus for it,” said corporate executive, Cheryln Chin. “(Also) network operators want to be able to do more with mobile data services. With Screen3, we address both sets of needs; making the mobile phone the next major media gateway by putting content where it belongs, in front of subscribers’ eyes, zero clicks away.”
The technology behind this innovation incorporates a media gateway server, which manages client content and allows users to choose from a wide range of media channels and RSS feeds, in accordance with their personal preferences.
Cingular has become the first cellular provider to offer Screen3 functionality, by integrating it Media Net Live ticker service. The way it is implemented will allow users to click on a headline, and view a small excerpt or “bite†of the article for free. Customers are only charged if they choose to access an entire article.
The V557 handset is available at Cingular stores throughout the US. Retail prices start at $99.99, with a two-year contract.
