More and more students in Asia Pacific universities are being given the opportunity to use wireless broadband services in their educational endeavors.

Intel is one of the driving forces behind this massive wireless expansion, and has contributed to the wireless networks of more than 300 universities in the region.

The company’s research indicates that more than 10% of Asian Pacific students now own a wireless laptop, and can make use of the many new networks. This is quite a dramatic increase, given that the penetration rate was only 1% in 2003.

Intel is obviously trying to further encourage this trend with its Mobile Initiative for Learning in Education, the program responsible for building the university wireless networks. This program was created with the goal of extending student learning beyond the classroom, and empowering aspiring technologists.
