Massive Growth Expected for Wireless Mesh Networking
4:13 am on November 17, 2005 | Category: Business, Wireless Technology
According to a study by ABI Research, the usage of mesh networking technology for large-scale wireless deployments could easily multiply ten times over the next five years.
The biggest increase will likely come from the many citywide Wi-Fi networks that are popping up across the US. Other major deployments such as those covering large corporate or university campuses will also contribute to the growth.
“I think that the growth rate will be dramatic,” said ABI’s senior analyst of wireless connectivity, Sam Lucero. “It’s an interesting market that has a lot of potential for alternative service providers such as Earthlink – ISPs who don’t have their own facilities at present.”
Lucero also said that Cisco’s entrance into the mesh networking industry further validates predictions of increasing usage of such technology.
