With the Xbox 360 now on the market, many are curious about the future direction of Microsoft’s gaming division.
According to Chris Early, the studio manager for Microsoft’s Casual Games Group, the company is planning a major push into the mobile gaming market over the first half of next year.
So far, Microsoft has just sold licenses for its most popular games to a selected group of specialized mobile phone entertainment companies, but they are now showing interest in exploring this huge market for themselves. This isn’t surprising, due to the fact that In-Stat predicts to mobile gaming market to grow to $1.8 billion by 2009. This is compared to a mere $203.8 million in 2004.
With their intentions announced, Microsoft has great ambitions for mobile gaming technology. They hope to eventually revolutionize gaming as we know it by connecting Xbox, PC, and mobile phone gaming into a single combined system.
