Most Low-End Laptops Leave out Wireless
1:46 am on November 14, 2005 | Category: Wireless Technology, Mobile DevicesMany computer hardware companies are trying to corner the low-end computing markets with very low cost, stripped down laptops. It is an unfortunate fact that wireless connectivity is often a feature that goes neglected in such models.
When looking at a sample of the lowest cost notebook computers from four top manufacturers (Dell, HP, Toshiba, and Lenovo), only the Toshiba Satellite M30X has even the most basic of built-in wireless capability. It is this limitation, among many others, that causes a lot of heavy computer users to be skeptical about low cost machines.
That’s not to say that a user who only needs basic functionality shouldn’t jump at the chance to get a notebook for under $600. If you need more advanced features though, such as large amounts of RAM, a high-end processor, and of course, wireless capability, you should think long and hard before going for one of these stripped down models.
