Nokia Blurs the Lines of Multimedia and Communication
2:35 am on November 3, 2005 | Category: Mobile DevicesThe world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia, is about to launch a new line of multimedia handsets that clearly aim to combine communication with information technology, and consumer electronics with broadcasting.
The company unveiled the new devices at the recent Nokia Mobility Conference in Barcelona, Spain. Company representatives say that these latest phones will represent a leap in the direction of mobile phones that are effectively handheld computers, capable of swapping information with PCs and other electronic equipment.
Nokia’s new N Series of handsets (the N71, N80, and N82) will allow users to watch and record live television programming, and send and receive digital content such as photos and music to and from computers.
Another new feature being introduced is a new mobile web browser called MiniMap, which is designed to enhance and improve internet usability on a small display.
Nokia has also recently releasing the new E series of handsets (the E60, E61, and E70), which enable users to securely send email attachments directly from their phones. Nokia executives are attempting to target the E series primarily towards corporate and enterprise-level customers.
