O2 Subsidiary Launches Europe’s First Super 3G Network
11:25 pm on November 10, 2005 | Category: Web Services, Wireless TechnologyWholly-owned O2 subsidiary, Manx Telecom, has officially launched what it says is Eurpoe’s first High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network, which offers super fast 3G wireless data capabilities.
The network is currently only available on the Isle of Man, and has the capacity to support up to 2000 users. It currently offers download speeds of up to 1.4Mbps, and this is expected to incrementally increase to 10Mbps by 2008.
“This is the first super 3G network,” said O2 chief technology officer, Dave Williams. “It’s the 3G everybody wanted.”
Similar networks are expected to launch in the UK, Ireland, and Germany by the middle of 2006.
