Optus to Launch Australian 3G Network

Popular Australian telecom provider, Optus will be launching its 3G high-speed mobile phone service during the next two weeks, just in time for the busy Christmas shopping season.

The service will include direct music downloads, as well as live television from SBS, ABC, and CNN. It will be compatible with five new handsets that support speeds up to nine times faster than the company’s GSM mobile network offering.

Optus plans to offer four different 3G-plan options, ranging in price from $49 to $89 monthly. They are obviously hoping that the holiday season will be a springboard into the already very crowded Australian cellular market, where it is believed that 9 out of every 10 adults owns some sort of mobile phone.
