RIM to Release New Intel-Powered BlackBerry
1:26 am on November 4, 2005 | Category: Mobile DevicesResearch in Motion has just unveiled the latest version of its popular BlackBerry device, which analysts say is the closest that they’ve ever come to making a true handheld computer.
The BlackBerry 8700c is more compact than previous models, has a longer battery life, and offers several key new telephone and email functions. The most notable change, however, is that the new device will the first to run on Intel’s latest high-speed processing technology.
RIM Chairman, Jim Balsillie claims that the 8700c is a “major step forward in wireless innovation.”
The new device will run on the EDGE wireless network, created by Cingular, a long time partner of RIM. It will be available on November 21st, at a retail price of about $300.
Senior research analyst, Carmi Levy says that that the 8700c will be a lot faster than previous BlackBerry handhelds, and will be able to run a wide variety of rich and powerful applications. “RIM needed some good news and this release clearly is good news,” he was quoted as saying.
