A recent report from Arizona research firm, IC Insights suggests that the market for camera-enabled cell phones is expanding at a rapid pace, with the annual number of shipments likely to hit 1 billion by 2010.

With global 2005 camera phone sales expected to come in at about 365 million units, and forecasters predicting this number to grow to 475 million next year, the digital camera is becoming a more and more common accessory on mobile handsets around the world. In fact, 2006 is expected to be the first year where more than half of all phones sold will include some sort of camera.

The photo quality and resolution of camera phones is also set to increase dramatically in the next few years. High resolution models, which only made up about 4% of the camera phone market in 2004, are expected to capture as much as 95% by 2009.

This increasingly sophisticated technology, along with declining prices will likely continue to boost demand for these handy little devices for many years to come.
