In the last few years cell phones have become a mainstream communications method for both personal and business users, but some people still have serious concern about using them to transmit private or confidential information.

Text messages are an especially touchy area, since once you send one, it’s out of your control, and could be forwarded on to anyone.

A small company by the name of Staellium UK Ltd. has recognized some of the concerns surrounding this technology, and come up with an interesting technology to put senders’ minds at rest.

Perhaps inspired by the old television series, Mission Impossible, the company’s new StealthText service allows users to send a text message with the knowledge that it will be automatically deleted within 40 seconds of being read. And when it comes to sensitive business communication, there is a definite market for peace of mind.

StealthText is currently only available to UK mobile phone customers, and costs 50p every time it is used. The software can be obtained by sending a text message to 80880, containing the word “STEALTH”.

    2. The point is that it gets automatically deleted, and can’t be saved by the receiver. Someone knowing who it’s from isn’t a problem — the intention is merely to ensure that messages aren’t stolen or forwarded into the wrong hands.
