IEEE Approves Mobile WiMAX Standard
5:50 am on December 9, 2005 | Category: Mobile Devices, WiMAX, Wireless Technology
The IEEE has recently approved a new mobile WiMAX standard, which will enter official certification testing in early 2006.
Although this approval doesn’t come as a bit surprise, it is definitely a significant step in the quest to bring WiMAX broadband internet technology to mobile phones. If all goes according to plan, mobile WiMAX products and services could start being released as early as late 2006 or early 2007.
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) approval isn’t mandatory for new technological standards and specifications, but it can certainly be useful in demonstrating dedication and building brand credibility.
