MCI Tests Next-Generation Broadband Technology
5:45 am on December 13, 2005 | Category: Web Services
Telecom provider, MCI has teamed up with Juniper Networks, Xtera Communications, and Mintera Corp. to complete one of the most advanced broadband internet trials yet.
The companies successfully managed to transmit data over a 3,040 km distance, at the breakneck speed of 40 Gigabits per second. The transmission took place over standard single mode fiber, around the Dallas, TX metro area.
This kind of extremely high-speed, long-range broadband testing means that it’s only a matter of time before such services are available to users. When fully available, this sort of next-generation internet service will have the flexibility to easily deliver high-quality video, data, voice, and advanced voice communication options, at speeds that were unimaginable just a few short years ago.
