Microsoft to Work with MCI on New Online VoIP Solution
4:30 am on December 13, 2005 | Category: VoIP, Web Services
Microsoft has recently teamed up with MCI Inc. in a global multiyear partnership to provide software and services associated with PC-to-Phone VoIP services.
The main product of this partnership will be a solution called MCI Web Calling. It will be available through Windows Live Messenger, an upcoming improvement on the popular MSN Messenger service, which boasts over 185 million active accounts worldwide.
MCI Web Calling is already being made available to a limited number of Windows Live Messenger beta testers, who will be able to make calls within the United States, Canada, and Western Europe for as little as 2.3 cents per minute. Final pricing information hasn’t yet been released, but calling time will be available in prepaid $5, $10, and $25 blocks.
Although product distribution will be handled exclusively by Microsoft, MCI will manage all customer registration, support, and billing. Both companies will work together to ensure high-quality software functionality and overall user experience.
