NBC Wants Share of Mobile TV Market

In the age-old competition between America’s big television networks, NBC has announced plans to enter the mobile television business.
This comes at around the same time as CBS announced that their clips of their programming would be made available to Verizon Wireless customers, and just shortly after ABC agreed to offer their content through the Apple iTunes service.
NBC’s new service will also be offered through iTunes, making them a more direct competitive threat to ABC than CBS is. The service will offer downloads of entire programs, the day after they air, at a fixed cost of $1.99/show. This is about the same cost as downloading two songs through the service.
The fact that three of America’s biggest networks have elected to offer their content as digital downloads, shows that they are truly beginning to accept the internet as a major entertainment distribution channel. In the past, TV networks have been wary of the internet, but they are now openly embracing it.
“We are committed to helping viewers enjoy the wide breadth of our programs across an equally wide range of devices and distribution models,” said NBC chairman, Bob Wright in a statement. “Apple has developed a distribution platform that is attractive to consumers while at the same time providing the safeguards against theft that are so important to us and to every content provider.”

Vidcasting will replace Podcasting as the next prime time distribution of video across all cellphones, pda’s & mobile devices.
