Google and Opera have come to an agreement that Google will be the default search engine of the new Opera Mini, a new web browser for mobile phones.

“It’s of great importance to have a search partner on board before the announcement,” said Opera COO, Christian Jebsen in a telephone interview. “We’ve been exploring different ways to make the product user-friendly. If you press the 9 (button), it takes you right to Google for searching.”

The final version of Opera Mini is set to be released to users around the world sometime next month, and will be compatible with all WAP-enabled mobile phones.

The browser will be available at no cost to users, but Opera’s partnership with Google will likely lead to some revenue generating opportunities through internet advertising.
