The New Oxford American Dictionary has just declared “podcast” to be the Word or the Year for 2005.

Known only to “a few techies and self-admitted geeks” a year ago, this interesting application of online VoIP technology has become a worldwide phenomena.

The word podcast is defined as “a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player,” and will be included in all future versions of the dictionary.
