After several days of crippling setbacks in its court battle to continue selling BlackBerry devices in the US, Research in Motion has finally experienced one small but unexpected victory.

The US Patent and Trademark Office has just rejected one of the claims by NTP, which claims that several of its patents are being infringed upon by RIM’s wildly popular BlackBerry handheld email devices.

Although, the Office’s ruling is by no means final, and this matter will likely be argued for months to come, this does give RIM one small glimmer of hope in their quest to keep a place in the world’s biggest telecommunications market. Whether or not it alters the momentum of the dispute is something that remains to be seen.
