The world’s third largest cell phone maker, Samsung Electronics Co. has recently announced an agreement to provide HSDPA-enabled handsets to UK-based mobile carrier, Vodafone.

The new phones will use Qualcomm modem chips to enable high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) data capability, and allow subscribers to make use of advanced multimedia services, at lower costs than with other mobile broadband technologies.

“Samsung is currently developing the first commercially available HSDPA phone to be launched exclusively for Vodafone,” the handset maker said in a statement about the deal.
