UK mobile giant, Vodafone, has just announced that HSBC banking executive, John Bond will become the company’s new chairman.

Bond plans to step down from his position at HSBC, where he has worked for the past 44 years, and take over from outgoing Vodafone chairman, Ian MacLaurin, next July.

“He is an outstandingly successful international businessman and his track record at HSBC speaks for itself,” MacLaurin said of Bond in a recent statement.

Although Bond doesn’t have much a background in the telecommunications industry, he has gained a reputation as an expert negotiator, and completed numerous acquisions in his long and successful career. This kind of experience will be a great asset to Vodafone, due to its planned expansion into a variety of new markets over the next few years.
