One of the most frequent complaints in the world of Instant Messaging is the confusion of keeping a huge list of contacts organized. With space for up to 600 contacts on the new Windows Live Messenger software, Microsoft is finally adding some additional tools to reduce the confusion.
The most important of these is Word Wheeling, a new feature allowing you to search your entire list of contacts, and narrow it down to the particular person you’re looking for. Word Wheeling is the equivalent of instant messaging speed dial, allowing you to search not just display names but also phone numbers and email addresses.
The new Messenger also lets you make personal notes about each of your contacts, and give them nicknames, which is very useful for dealing with those people who love messing with their display name. Your nicknames and personalized notes about people are also searchable via the Word Wheeling feature.
Although still only in beta for the time being, Windows Live Messenger will have quite a number of nifty new features, as well as an attractive new design. With its increased organizational control, this new platform is sure to make a splash in the in the instant messaging world next year.
