Research in Motion announced this morning that future BlackBerry wireless email devices will include the Google Talk instant messaging and VoIP service.

A special version of Google Talk for BlackBerry will launch this spring. The software will be included with new BlackBerry devices, and available as a free download for existing models.

The strategy of allowing a free VoIP service onto BlackBerry devices, which provide their own paid voice service, is certainly a curious one. By co-branding with Google, however, RIM likely hopes to create an additional competitive advantage over much cheaper competing devices.

This deal will also be beneficial to Google, which hopes to expand its share of the instant messaging market at the expense of rivals such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and Skype.
