4:02 pm on January 3, 2006 | Category: Mobile Devices, VoIP
Networking hardware company, D-Link has just introduced a new phone adapter, which allows users to make Skype internet telephony calls using an existing cordless phone.
The new D-Link Skype USB phone adapter (DPH-50U) allows a regular phone to accept SkypeIn and traditional telephone calls both at once. It is completely compatible with conferencing and call waiting features.
“At D-Link, we know that the digital home is all about integration and ease-of-use,” said D-Link executive vice president, Keith Karlsen about the new product. “By extending Skype to be accessible through traditional phones, we can make the benefits of Skype even easier to experience.”
Starting on Thursday, the DPH-50U adapter will be up for display and demonstration in the D-Link and Skype booths at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

I purchased this product over the weekend at Compusa and it works beautifully. I made a couple of calls to family to test it out, and they had no idea I was calling from the internet. A few changes are needed on Skype’s end to make listening to messages over this system easier. As it stands, you have to change properties on the Skype screen to Windows Default to hear any messages that are left for you from callers. Otherwise, the D-Link product is perfect.
