Hardware maker, Hewlett-Packard announced a new notebook computer on Thursday that works with Verizon’s high-speed EV-DO cellular broadband network.

The HP Compaq nc6140 will weigh 6 pounds, with a 15-inch screen and Qualcomm wireless chipset. It will feature dual antennas and pre-installed cellular broadband software, making EV-DO an easy and practical alternative to the more limited Wi-Fi wireless standard.

“Mobile professionals using HP’s mobile broadband notebook no longer have to limit themselves to airports, hotel lobbies or other public Wi-Fi hotspots,” said HP senior vice president, Ted Clark in a statement.

The EV-DO network’s offers a high level of convenience for laptop users who desire a higher level of mobility, but unfortunately, it doesn’t come cheap. Unlimited access to the network currently costs $79.99/month, but this is reduced to $59.99/month for existing Verizon Wireless cellular customers.
