Kama Sutra Email Worm Infects Computers Worldwide
2:36 pm on January 31, 2006 | Category: Web Services
A malicious worm disguised as an adult email has been hitting inboxes around the world recently, and is expected to begin erasing files on infected computers on February 3rd.
Security experts say that the “Kama Sutra” worm targets Microsoft, Adobe, and ZIP files, and could have already infected as many as 500,000 computers. The scary thing is that many users may not know about it until after Friday, when it’s already too late.
Once installed, the worm freezes up the user’s computer, and disables the anti-virus program, but once the computer is re-started, everything appears to be back to normal.
“It is already underway and will be activated unless people get removal tools,” said VeriSign rapid response director, Ken Dunham. “If you have opened an e-mail and your computer froze up, you should be very concerned.”
Dunham says that anyone who suspects a “Kama Sutra” infection should completely re-install their anti-virus program, then run a virus scan to pinpoint and remove the infected file.
