Lenovo to Embed Cellular Broadband Chips in Laptops
1:45 am on January 5, 2006 | Category: Cellular, Wireless Technology
Computer manufacturer, Lenovo Group Ltd. has announced its intentions to build a ThinkPad notebook computer with embedded cellular broadband technology, which will allow users to connect to the internet via Cingular’s 3G wireless network.
The new ThinkPad is expected to be available in the second quarter of this year. It will work with Cingular’s HSDPA network, which exists in 52 American cities, as well as the slower EDGE network in other serviced areas.
Although slower and more expensive than Wi-Fi internet access, cellular broadband services are gaining in popularity due to the convenience of not being confined to small and restrictive wireless hotspots.
