Microsoft has just announced that the forthcoming Windows Live Messenger product will place a greater emphasis on serious VoIP functionality with two new USB phones being specially tailored for the service.

The Uniden WIN 1200 and Philips VoIP433 are both expected to debut sometime this spring. They offer high call quality, and excellent compatibility with both the PC-to-PC and PC-to-Phone functions of MCI and Microsoft’s online VoIP offering.

This announcement is the next step in Microsoft’s plan to launch a high-quality VoIP service, and more effectively compete with current internet telephony market leader, Skype.
