“Mobile Me”: Possible Brand Name for iPod Cell Phone

On January 5th, Apple Computer Inc. filed a US trademark on the phrase “Mobile Me,†which could be used for any one of a number of products, including a possible iPod smarphone.
“We believe this is further indication of (Apple’s) strategic direction to extend its iPod + iTunes and Mac franchises into new business areas including smartphones, value-added mobile content services, and the broader consumer electronics space,†wrote American Technology Research analyst, Shaw Wu in a recent statement.
Apple representatives refused to comment on this recent move, but there has been speculation for several months now that the company will eventually try to combine the video and music capabilities of the iPod with the convenience of a digital smartphone.
If they were to launch such a device under the brand name Mobile Me, it could include any one of a number of features, due to the broad-based nature of the new trademark. Apple is allowed to use the device for a device that includes voice, email, instant messaging, and wireless networking functionality, as well as support for digital music, gaming, video, television, satellite technology, or any combination thereof.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the trademark will be utilized, but if it is, Mobile Me could be the name of Apple’s much anticipated all-in-one digital device.
