Motorola ROKR E2 Will Use iRadio, Not iTunes
8:30 am on January 3, 2006 | Category: Cell Phones, Mobile Devices, Multimedia, Telecom Services, Wireless
Motorola has officially revealed that they will not be using the Apple iTunes music service in the upcoming ROKR E2 mobile phone.
Instead, the ROKR E2 will use a new in-house service by the name of iRadio, which uses Bluetooth to stream music files. It will allow users to transfer their own music from a computer, or download songs from any of the 435 subscription-based “radio stations†associated with the service.
Music can be wirelessly transferred to compatible cell phones or car stereos, putting iRadio in loose competition with satellite radio services like Sirius and XM.
The iRadio service will be demonstrated for the first time later this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. There are rumors that a prototype of the ROKR E2 might also make an appearance.
