Motorola Unveils Cellular Broadband Access Point
6:50 am on January 26, 2006 | Category: Wireless Technology, Mobile Devices
Motorola has introduced a new enterprise-targeted access point product, designed to spread 3G cellular broadband service throughout a business. It also acts as a kind of mini cellular base station, including such abilities as SIM authentication, and circuit-switched voice and roaming capabilities.
The Motorola AXPT will be marketed to corporate users that need to deploy UMTS or HSDPA wireless 3G data technology within a building.
“It delivers high quality coverage and capacity in-building directly where operators need to serve their enterprise customers,” said Motorola Networks executive, Raghu Rau. He also pointed out that the new access point will make use of what he calls “the Wi-Fi model” to distribute wireless data access.
Motorola hasn’t yet given a launch date for the new product, but they plan to demonstrate it at next month’s 3GSM World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain.
