The nation’s largest financial institution, Royal Bank of Canada has announced that it will be using VoIP technology for all 8,400 phone lines at its head office in Toronto, Ontario.

Bell Canada, which began providing VoIP services last year, has been named as the exclusive provider for the new lines. If everything goes well with the service, RBC could end up switching the rest of its 53,000 phone lines to VoIP, presenting another potentially huge opportunity for Bell.

This deal makes Royal Bank the third major Canadian financial institution to use Bell’s VoIP service, after Manulife and the Bank of Montreal signed on late last year.
