Sky Launches Broadband and Mobile Television Services
12:55 am on January 11, 2006 | Category: Web Services, Mobile Devices
British satellite television giant, BSkyB has just launched two new services that will allow users to download movies and other video content onto a PC or mobile phone.
Sky by mobile and Sky by broadband are both designed to increase existing customers’ value and enjoyment of the service, while encouraging sign-ups from new potential customers throughout the UK and Ireland. Another major motivation behind the new services is increasing evidence of desire amongst customers to access television content across a variety of different media.
The broadband service will potentially be of benefit to almost half (47%) of Sky’s customers who currently have broadband connections in their homes. Sky by mobile, meanwhile, is also expected to have a large potential market, due to the high percentage of the British public that owns a mobile phone.
As of its date of release, Sky by broadband features access to 200 different full-length movies, as well as news programming, and sports video clips.
Sky by Mobile features easy access to news, entertainment, and sports content, as well as weather forecasts, and the ability to place bets wirelessly through the Sky Bet service.
